All too frequently, unsuccessful organizations are overmanaged and underled.

A successful organization doesn't just need someone to be in charge. Success requires leadership -- people to set direction for the organization, give it a vision and then translate the vision into reality.

Servant Leadership must be present in every successful company. The approach has been widely used in all types of organizations: for-profit businesses, not-for-profit organizations, churches, universities and foundations.

A servant leader embraces people-building and development, not people protection -- giving care and support while upholding the company's expectations of employee performance.

Program Benefits

Thousands who have attended the seminars have witnessed the transforming power of this unconventional approach. Those seeking to grow as leaders and business executives will find Servant Leader nothing short of life changing. Participants will learn:
- the ability to listen receptively to what others have to say;
- highly developed powers of persuasion, in contrast to positional authority;
- commitment to building a high-trust community in the workplace; and
- commitment to the growth of employees, believing that people have an intrinsic value beyond
their contribution as workers.

Volunteer taskforces preventing TB in the Philippines

0

Karen Rivera, TDC
This from WorldVision.Org.PH

In the Philippines, tuberculosis (TB) claims 75 lives everyday. Confronted by stigma and resigned to living fearfully with TB, many people do not seek the treatment they need. As part of the global campaign against TB, World Vision is helping communities in the Philippines respond through a network of local volunteers dedicated to supporting those affected by the disease.

Among the volunteers is Cedes, a mother of four living in Iloilo City, who has had more experience than most in responding to TB. As a volunteer in one of the 341 taskforces in the country, Cedes juggles her time taking care of her family and helping people in her village prevent the spread of TB.

Before the taskforce started working in her community, Cedes says that people didn’t have the information they need to protect themselves from the disease. Nor did they know that TB can be cured.

“People would rather suffer in shame and silence than seek medical attention,” shares Cedes. As a task force member, she has the tough job of convincing people with symptoms of TB to seek diagnosis and access free treatment from local health services.

Cedes knows too well what it’s like to be in their shoes. Her experience of having a family member sick with TB has given Cedes a stronger resolve to help her community come to terms with TB.

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Motivated by our Christian faith, World Vision is dedicated to working with the world’s most vulnerable people. World Vision serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

World Vision partners with children and the communities among the poorest areas to help improve lives and combat poverty.

World Vision strives to build thriving communities where peace and justice prevail and all can enjoy security, opportunity and happiness. We work for the well-being of the poor and vulnerable people through:

* Sustainable development. World Vision works alongside the disadvantaged communities enabling them to use their own capacities and potentials so that they can own the development process.

* Emergency Response and Disaster Relief. World Vision responds to life-threatening situations where its involvement is needed and appropriate. I seeks to protect vulnerable people amid difficult circumstances by providing emergency relief such as food, water, shelter, medicine, clothing, and disaster preparedness trainings.

* Raising Public Awareness and Advocating for Justice. By increasing understanding of poverty and injustice, World Vision seeks to promote public involvement and government policies that alleviate poverty.

Our Beginnings

World Vision was founded by American Dr. Bob Pierce in 1950 following his life-changing trips to China and Korea. Dr. Pierce was awfully moved by the impact of the war on children. He set up orphanages to care for those who were abandoned or whose parents had died. By the 1960s this work had expanded to meet the needs of refugees in Indochina and the survivors of disasters in Bangladesh and Africa. Eventually, Child Sponsorship was started to provide long-term funding assistance to help poor children worldwide.

Over the decades World Vision’s approach has shifted from welfare provision to collaboration, partnering with communities and individuals to seek solutions to tackle poverty.

Our Philosophy

As a non-denominational Christian oragnization, World Vision aims to share and demonstrate the love and compassion that Jesus Christ extended to all people, especially to children, particularly to those living in poverty or suffering from oppression and injustice.

Our Vision for every child,

Life in all its fullness;
Our Prayer for every heart,

The Will to make it so.

The World Vision staff are guided by following core values:

We are Christian.
We are committed to the poor.
We value people.
We are stewards.
We are partners.
We are responsive.

World Vision follows the International Code of Conduct for disaster relief organisations and provides assistance based on need and regardless of race, religion, gender or ethnicity.

World Vision is an international Christian humanitarian organization committed to uplift the lives of children, their families and communities through integrated programs in education, health, value formation, livelihood and community development.

Established in the Philippines in 1957, World Vision has since sent over 200, 000 poor Filipino children to school in mostly remote communities nationwide. Aside from helping poor children, it is our great desire too to help create a more caring public which our country is in dire need of.

Child Sponsorship is our way of engaging the public, particularly individuals to pledge and give a monthly donation of P600 (or only P20 a day), which will help a particular child get education, good health and various community development project where these children lives.
